Job Details
A job detail is a single line item on a job. A job can have one or more job details.
Some businesses have only a single line item on their jobs, proposals, and invoices. All details are included in that single line item. This approach is the easiest from a paperwork perspective, but it does not allow for tracking individual labor and parts costs.
The same service illustrated in the Single Line Item Approach can instead be broken into several job details. This approach can provide a more granular view of costs to both the customer and your business.
To add a job detail to a job, click the Add Job Detail button in the Job Details section (while editing a job).
The Job Detail Editor will be displayed in a modal.
From here, you can select tabs for the various job details and edit the description and text.
When adding a job detail by clicking on the Add to Job button, the job detail modal will stay open. Doing so will allow for quickly adding multiple job details without having the job detail modal close between each job detail being added.
To edit a job detail, click the Action Button (the ellipsis button with three dots). Then click on Edit.
To delete a job detail, click on the Action Button (the ellipsis button with three dots). Then click on Delete.
If any proposals, work orders, or invoices had previously been created from a deleted job detail, those job documents will not be updated. You must recreate those proposals, work orders or invoices to reflect the deleted job detail.
There are two ways to change the order of job details.
Click the Action Button (the ellipsis button with three dots), then click Move Up or Move Down.
Click any job detail and drag and drop it to the position you want to move it to.
Many types of job details can help you classify and organize your job line items. The following list details each type.
Service
When adding or editing a Service job detail, you can select an option from the Service. Doing so provides:
- An easy way to define your most commonly offered services.
- An optional description of each.
- Some default pricing.
The options presented in the Service dropdown can be managed under Job Services.
Service Group
When adding or editing a Service job detail, you can select a Service Group. The options presented in the Service Group dropdown can be managed under Picklists.
A Service Group provides some additional categorization for a job detail.
Subtotal
You can add a Subtotal job detail by clicking the Add Job Detail button. On the job detail editor modal, select the Subtotal tab. Both the Service Group and Description are optional.
In the following example, Subtotal Job Details highlight the costs of High Priority vs. Low Priority items on a job, providing the customer with a clear understanding of what each group of items will cost.
Resource
A resource can be added as a job detail to indicate that a resource is required (and allocated to) a job. Doing so can help with resource management and ensuring a resource isn't assigned to multiple jobs simultaneously. A resource could also be a chargeable item for a job. See Resources for more information.
Labor
Labor job details allow for free-form labor rate entry or for selecting from your predefined labor rates. See Labor Rates.
Parts/Material
Parts/Material job details allow free-form data entry or making a selection from your predefined parts and materials. See Parts/Material.
Freight
A freight job detail is a free-form input for conveying freight charges.
