Job Details

8min

A job detail is a single line item on a job. A job can have one or more job details.

Single Job Detail Approach

Some businesses have only a single line item on their jobs, proposals, and invoices. All details are included in that single line item. This approach is the easiest from a paperwork perspective, but it does not allow for tracking individual labor and parts costs.

Multiple Job Details Approach

The same service illustrated in the Single Line Item Approach can instead be broken into several job details. This approach can provide a more granular view of costs to both the customer and your business.

Job Detail Types

Many types of job details can help you classify and organize your job line items. The following list details each type.

1

Service

When adding or editing a Service job detail, you can select an option from the Service. Doing so provides:

  • An easy way to define your most commonly offered services.
  • An optional description of each.
  • Some default pricing.

The options presented in the Service dropdown can be managed under Job Services.

Service Group

3

Resource

A resource can be added as a job detail to indicate that a resource is required (and allocated to) a job. Doing so can help with resource management and ensuring a resource isn't assigned to multiple jobs simultaneously. A resource could also be a chargeable item for a job. See Resources for more information.
